Here's what the unit includes:

•  A 5-minute authentic video filmed in the center of Madrid during Spain's World Cup celebrations, featuring real interviews with fans, spectacular street scenes, and footage of the players riding through the city with the World Cup trophy.

• An introduction to the new AP Spanish curriculum. Students explore the six course themes and their suggested contexts by connecting ideas from the authentic sources to each theme.

• Authentic sources. Students analyze two Instagram posts published after the final: one by Spanish player Marcos Llorente and another by Antonela Roccuzzo (Lionel Messi's wife) as well as a data table showing how the internet and social media have transformed the way people experience the World Cup.

• A self-grading AP-style multiple-choice quiz that introduces students to the types of questions they will see on the exam, including vocabulary in context, purpose, comprehension, and an introduction to the 3 Ps: cultural products (the flag), cultural practices (going out into the streets to celebrate), and cultural perspectives (how soccer can unite a country and strengthen national identity).

• A communicative speaking activity that helps students get to know their classmates while practicing the language from the unit with questions such as ¿Qué actividad ocupa la mayor parte de tu tiempo libre? and ¿Conoces a alguien que nunca baja los brazos? ¿Quién es y cómo es?

• An engaging warm-up built around the story behind Spanish player Marc Cucurella's World Cup tattoo, designed to spark curiosity and discussion from the very beginning of class.
