Dos chicas en una cocina explican la receta del tereré

At the 37th second of the video included in this lesson, the presenter says:

"Hoy vamos a aprender a preparar el tereré."

Her assistant looks at her in a puzzled way.

She isn't sure if she understood correctly, so she asks:

"¿Tereré?"

I can really relate to that first scene.

When I started working on this project, I had no idea what tereré meant, and I didn’t know much about Paraguay either.

I had never spoken to someone from Paraguay until I contacted Laura, the main actress of Cocina fácil: el tereré.

Thanks to her, I learned that el tereré is Paraguay's national drink, and I was able to try it when we finished filming the video.

Yes, it’s great and very different from Argentinian mate, since el tereré is a cold drink, perfect for the summer months.

We’re thrilled to share this lesson, highlighting Paraguay’s rich culture through our beloved Cocina Fácil format.

Students will enjoy combining language learning with the fun and approachable tradition of preparing el tereré.

What’s Included in This Lesson?
  1. Warm-Up Activity: Introduce and practice the main grammar focus of the lesson: the informal (tú) imperative of regular and irregular verbs, in both affirmative and negative forms. This activity sets the stage for confident language use throughout the lesson.

  2. Cultural Exploration: Teach students about Paraguay and one of its breathtaking natural wonders: Los Saltos del Monday. Students will gain cultural knowledge while engaging with activities designed to make learning about Paraguay fun and memorable.

  3. Step-by-Step Video: A professionally produced video featuring two talented actresses—one from Venezuela and the other from Paraguay—guides students through the process of preparing tereré. The video is clear, entertaining, and includes optional Spanish subtitles. To reinforce learning, students can take a self-grading quiz to check their comprehension.

  4. Wrap-Up Activity: Encourage students to apply what they’ve learned with a creative activity: using a template to explain their own recipes. This exercise is accessible even for those without any cooking experience and reinforces both the grammar and vocabulary covered in the lesson.
