What’s Included?

1. Warm-Up Activity: Guess the Dish!

Kick off the lesson with a fun and interactive warm-up where students will review or learn key ingredient vocabulary.

They’ll see three different sets of ingredients and try to guess which Spanish dish they correspond to.

An answer key is provided to support learning.

2. Activities: reading, listening and a super engaging video

We’ve crafted a structured set of activities with clear instructions, transcripts, and answer keys:

  • Reading Activity: Students will read about Spanish cuisine and expressions of preference, followed by multiple-choice questions to test comprehension.

  • Listening Activity: Students will listen to a song that includes ingredients from the previous reading. They'll fill in the blanks and learn new ways to express food preferences.

  • Personal Expression Activity: Students will apply what they’ve learned by writing about their favorite restaurant using the newly introduced expressions.

  • Video Comprehension Activity: A structured exercise accompanies the video to help students follow along and check their understanding.

3. Cultural Video: A Taste of Spain

Filmed in Madrid in the summer of 2024, this engaging 3:29-minute video continues the story of La familia de Karina.

In this episode, Alexis, a boy from the Dominican Republic, takes Lucía, a Madrileña, on their first date.

While waiting for their movie, they decide to grab something to eat and end up ordering churros!

The video offers optional Spanish subtitles and provides a cultural deep dive into Spain’s most iconic foods, including jamón, paella, croquetas, aceite de oliva, and churros.

Teachers can also assign the self-grading quiz to check students’ understanding of the video.

4. Final Speaking Activity: Role-Playing Conversations

To wrap up the unit, students will participate in a role-playing activity where they’ll practice expressing their food preferences.

Each student receives a card with guided questions and expressions from the unit, encouraging meaningful conversations about their favorite dishes.
